Taiwan-headquartered electronics manufacturer Wistron, a major Apple supplier, is investing $24.5 million in a new factory in Vietnam's northern province of Ha Nam, according to a report published by a local media, the Investor Vafie Magazine.
The report cited documents from Vietnam's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment revealing that the "Victory II" project will span 4.9 hectares in Dong Van III industrial park. Wistron Technology (Vietnam) Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Wistron, will spearhead this investment.
The factory aims to complete administrative procedures by October, install machinery and equipment in November, and commence official operations shortly thereafter. It will have an annual production capacity of three million LCD displays (13,140 tons), 198,000 firewall items (198 tons), 1.03 million docking stations (541 tons), and 35,000 webcams (241 tons).
Previously, Wistron received an investment registration certificate for an additional US$45 million in its other factory, Victory I, also in Ha Nam. This brings the total investment in Victory I to US$363.9 million. Wistron began the first phase of Victory I's construction in April 2020, with operations starting in December 2021. The second phase commenced in June 2023 and is slated to begin operations in April 2025.
Ha Nam's industrial production index (IIP) rose 3.25% year-on-year in May and 14.03% from January to May, surpassing the national growth rate of 6.8% for the same period. Significant growth was noted in sub-sectors like electronics, computers, and optical products (25.92%), electrical items (32.78%), and plastics and plastic products (26.93%).
