Based on an observation of upstream suppliers and downstream customers of Samsung Electronics and its associated companies in the north of Vietnam, DIGITIMES Research has found that the Korean electronics giant and its affiliated firms still rely heavily on Korea-based upstream supply chain makers.
Abstract
The move by Samsung Electronics to start gradually ramping up its production ratio of smartphones in northern Vietnam since 2010 has resulted in many of its supply chain makers also beginning to build their plants in the northern part of Vietnam.
DIGITIMES Research also found that the Korean electronics giant and its affiliated firms still rely heavily on Korea-based upstream supply chain makers for their operations currently in Vietnam.
However, DIGITIMES Research added that these upstream suppliers also rely on other Korea-based or Korean-invested overseas factories to supply needed materials and parts, although not all of them are established in Vietnam.
